About Behavioral AI Lab

Behavioral AI Lab is an independent research and technology organization focused on the behavioral layer of artificial intelligence.

While much of AI research focuses on models, algorithms, and individual outputs, we study what happens when AI interacts with people over time—how trust develops, how decisions are influenced, and how behavioral risks such as manipulation, persuasion, and dependency can emerge across interactions.

Our work combines behavioral science, proprietary behavioral data, AI evaluation, and technology development to turn behavioral insight into practical systems. We develop methods and tools for detecting behavioral risks, evaluating human–AI interactions, and designing safer, more human-centered AI.

Tomomi Tanaka is a behavioral scientist and AI strategist working at the intersection of behavioral science, artificial intelligence, and digital safety.

Her work focuses on Behavioral AI—the study and development of AI systems that understand and respond to human behavior. Her research examines how trust, persuasion, manipulation, and decision-making emerge in human–AI interactions, and how behavioral science can be used to detect risks and design safer AI systems.

Before founding Behavioral AI Lab, she held leadership roles at Amazon, Oracle, Uber, Match Group, and the World Bank, leading initiatives spanning AI, Trust & Safety, digital products, and large-scale technology systems.

Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including the American Economic Review, and her writing has appeared in Harvard Business Review. She has presented her work on AI governance, Safety by Design, and AI safety to international, government, industry, and research audiences.
