About Behavioral AI Lab

Behavioral AI Lab is an independent research and advisory initiative focused on the human side of artificial intelligence.

While much of AI research focuses on models and algorithms, we study how people interact with AI, how AI shapes decisions and behavior, and how behavioral science can improve the design, evaluation, and governance of AI systems.

Tomomi Tanaka is a behavioral scientist and AI strategist working at the intersection of behavioral science, artificial intelligence, and digital safety.

Her work focuses on helping organizations design, evaluate, and deploy AI systems that better align with how people make decisions, build trust, and interact with technology. She combines behavioral science, AI evaluation, and real-world operational experience to improve AI deployment, safety, and human-centered system design.

Before founding Behavioral AI Lab, she held leadership roles at Amazon, Oracle, Uber, Match Group, and the World Bank, leading initiatives spanning AI, Trust & Safety, digital products, and large-scale technology systems.

Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including the American Economic Review, and her writing has appeared in Harvard Business Review. She has also presented her work on AI governance, Safety by Design, and AI deployment at the United Nations.
